Zusammenfassung:	To fill the space between double knitted fabrics, where the fabric layers are held together by piles at intervals, a filling material (13) is introduced between the layers by a filling unit (10) directly at the knitting point, after the stitches have been formed. The material is fed in over the whole fabric width, and for a given fabric length. Also claimed is an apparatus with a filling unit (10) between the guide bars (3,4) of the warp knitter, and preferably a Raschel rib knitter. The filling unit has a charging opening (10a) at its upper end, and a closable outlet opening (10b) at the lower end, at the level of the guide needles (6,7). The upper end (10) is held at the suspension shaft (12) or guide bar holder (15), and is given the same swing movements as the guide bars (3,4) during knitting.
