Fe(II) salt soln. to ppte. a complex intermediate product; (b) oxidising the Fe(II) in the ppte. to Fe(III) at a mean oxidn. rate of less than 10 (pref. 2-9) g produced Fe(III)/l./hr., until 20-70 mol% of the Fe(II) is converted into Fe(III); and (c) increasing the mean oxidn. rate to more than 10 (pref. more than 12) g produced Fe(III)/l./hr. so that goethite seed particles are formed.
