Zusammenfassung:	The lighting circuit has a battery 2 supplying DC voltage via a switch 5 to a control stage 6 coupled to a DC to AC inverter 7. This provides a square-wave current supply to the starter circuit 8 and an metal halogen lamp 10. Connected into the system is a circuit 13 that detects any abnormality in the battery supply or the load condition of the lamp. The circuit has an associated hold stage 14 coupled to an auxiliary voltage supply 15 that delivers a given voltage that enables the system to operate if an abnormality does occur.
