Zusammenfassung:A process for identifying knocking in the combustion chamber of internal combustion engines uses optical probes which measure the intensity of combustion at the spark-plug. This beam is transmitted to an opto-electronic converter for conversion to an electrical signal. A number of signals from the converter are used to arrive at a standardised signal for each plug. These standardised signals are integrated and the result is compared with the norm in combustion without knocking, to give an electrical value to the degree of knocking. If the knocking is severe, this signal can be used to automatically control combustion. Because the system is not dependent on light intensity, the dirtiness of the probe face in the combustion chamber is not critical.
