Zusammenfassung: | The valve opening and closing is governed by electromagnets for each function and opposing compression springs, working within a further electromagnetic field which is used to limit the amount and time of opening according to the torque requirements of the engine. The valve stem (2) is held in a median position by compression springs (6,7) so that the armature (3) is between the pole-pieces (11) of an electromagnet (10). Closing and opening electromagnets (4,5) may be energised to move the valve stem up or down against the spring pressures. When the magnet (4) is energised the armature closes against the pole (8) and the valve is fully closed. Similarly when the magnet (5) is energised the valve is fully open. Under low load, and hence low torque requirements, at high speeds the fully open condition is undesirable, and may be limited by energising the braking magnetic coil (10) to arrest movement of the armature. |
