Zusammenfassung:	A glass fibre severing process, used in textile product manufacture, has differential tensile and compressive stresses created in the glass fibre cross-section, and involves passing the fibres over a sharp bending edge and applying longitudinal tension at both ends of the fibres. Also claimed is an apparatus for severing glass fibre textile threads, in which: (a) slightly spaced-apart guide elements (2, 3) with rounded guide edges are positioned immediately alongside the tensioned thread (1); (b) a bending element (4), with a sharp bending edge (41) facing the thread (1), is positioned at the opposite side of the thread from the gap between the guide elements (2, 3); and (c) the guide elements (2, 3) and the bending element (4) can be moved towards one another.
