Zusammenfassung:	The method involves holding the retainers (42) between wedge-shaped dividing implements (20) within an insertion and removal tool (1). This is set upon the face of a spring (41) loaded washer (40). The retainers are then pushed down until they are beneath a groove (45) on the valve's tappet (43). As the tool retracts, the retainers are fastened are slide between the tappet and washer. The process can be reversed to remove the retainers, which are then stored in a space (12) in the tool. The tool consists of a movable spring mounted sleeve (3) on a shaft (2) with axial bore hole. A pin (4) is mounted so as to move axially in the sleeve. The free end of the sleeve carries the dividers. The other end of the sleeve has a handle protruding beyond the shaft. The pin held in the sleeve is pressed by at least one spring into a position in which it protrudes beyond the sleeve.
