Farbstabile,geruchfreie Polymermasse und Verfahren zu deren Herstellung

A colour-stable odour-free polymer is prepared by polymerizing an aqueous suspension of a polymerizable heterocyclic nitrogen compound, in the presence of 0À25 to 3À0%, based on the weight of heterocyclic nitrogen compound, of an additive comprising an organic non-aromatic water-soluble compound containing at least one available hydrazino or hydroxylamino radical, i.e. at least one of the hydrazino or hydroxylamino radicals of the additive are in the free base form and at least one amino group thereof is unsubstituted. In the examples (1) 2-vinyl pyridine and 2-methyl-5-vinyl pyridine are copolymerized with azo-bis-butyronitrile in the presence of hydrazine hydrate, semi-carbazide free base or amino guanidine; (2) 2-vinyl pyridine and sytrene are polymerized with azo-bis-butyronitrile in the presence of hydrazine hydrate; (3) 2-vinyl pyridine, styrene and acrylonitrile or dimethylamino ethyl methacrylate are polymerized with azo-bisbutyronitrile in the presence of hydrazine hydrate; (4) 2-methyl-5-vinylpyridine is polymerized with azo-bis-butyronitrile in the presence of thio-semi-carbazide or a hydroxylamine free base solution; and (5) 2-vinyl pyridine and 2 - methyl - 5 - vinylpyridine is polymerized with azo-bis-butyronitrile in the presence of unsymmetrical -N,N1- dimethyl hydrazine. Alkyl cellulose and gum arabic are added as suspending agents.
