1287423 Pressurized dispensing container valves SCOVILL MFG CO 29 Oct 1969 [30 Oct 1968] 53049/69 Heading F1R An aerosol dispensing valve assembly comprises a one-piece moulded valve housing including an expansion zone 44 whose curving walls increase gradually to a port 45 communicating with a chamber whose walls 19 also taper gradually to the region of the valve head 23. The valve head 23 has a slightly dished upper surface 24 such that its edge 25 seats and seals against a gasket 15. The assembly includes a valve stem 26 containing a rectangular passage 31, leading to a top cylindrical portion 32, whose side walls intersect grove 30 to form two stem orifices 33. The stem 26 also includes channels 34, 35 with flaring surfaces 36, 37, 38, 39 to allow high velocity flow, at the bottom of the stem. During operation a slight amount of fluid is left in the stem 26 and it tends to collect at the orifices 33. To overcome this, two opposing side walls of the passage 31 are closely spaced and leads directly away from orifices 33; the fluid being pulled away from these orifices by capillary action, Fig.4.
