A system for detecting a discontinuity or short circuit in the wiring between the physically separate sub-units of a semiconductor assembly forming part of e.g. an electrical volt. ampere or Watt meter for an AC supply (Ut, it). A fault detector module (7) incorporates a pair of threshold sensors (14, 15) whose additive output is combined in the DR gate (16) for connection to a further signal processing stage (17) whose response to voltage or current saturation in the amplifier stage (8) arising from the onset of a fault is signalled by the indicator (24). A monostable multi vibrator (20) ensures that the system does not self-reset in response to intermittent/repetitive faults.
