Colour photographic silver halide material with improved graininess

A colour photographic Ag halide (AgX) material has a base and AgX emulsion layer(s) contg. a colour coupler and a benzimidazole cpd. of formula (I), where R1-R3 = H or an organic gp.; n = 0-4; and R1 with R2 or an adjacent R3 gp. or 2 adjacent R3 gps. is a 5-7-membered carbo- or heterocycle; or A1, R2 or R3 is linked to a polymer by a bridging gp.; and at least one of R1-3 is an organic gp. Pref. R1 = H, opt. substd. (un)satd. alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or hetaryl; esp. H, unsubstd. 1-20C alkyl or a 1-4C alkyl gp. substd. by OH, Ph, alkylmercapto or arylmercapto; R2 = as R1, SR4, OR4 or COR4; esp. 1-20C (un)satd. alkyl, 1-4C alkyl substd. by alkylmercapto, CN or alkoxycarbonyl or SR4; R3 = opt. substd. (un)satd. alkyl, aryl, halogen, OR4, SR4, COR4, COOR4, CONHR4, NH-acyl, SO2R4 or CN; esp. 1-20C alkyl, Ph or halogen; R4 = opt. substd. (un)satd. alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or hetaryl; esp. 1-20C alkyl; and n = esp. 0, 1 or 2. The coupler is a 2-equiv. pyrazolone magenta coupler. The coupler has a mol. wt. of 500-1500 and is used in an amt. of 0.5-1.5 g/m and (I) is used in an amt. of 50-500 mg/m .
