Zusammenfassung:	Appts. for determining pollution has at least one laser source (10), one fibre optic device (24) to introduce laser light to a sample (12) and another fibre optic device (26) to observe and transmit the fluorescence of the sample to detectors (16, 18, 20). The detectors (16, 18, 32, 34, 36) have at least two time windows (I1, I2) at set times after the initial pulse hits the sample. The differential time relative to the initial laser pulse is used in a computer to determine the quantitative degree of pollution. A process for determining pollution using the appts. is also claimed.
