Zusammenfassung: | Fibrous TiO2 is produced by contacting Ti tetrahalide (mixture), pref. TiCl4, opt. in carrier gas(es) at above 600 degrees C, pref. 700-1000 degrees C, with melt comprising salt(s) of oxy-acids, which can form volatile anhydrides under reaction conditions (esp. metal sulphate) and metal halide(s), pref. chloride, and separating product. These wiskers have good thermal stability and IR reflectivity, high fineness ratio, E modulus and strength and good chemical resistance. They are suitable for use as high temp. insulants, reinforcements for composites and filter felts. |
