Zusammenfassung:Neutral grey anodic oxide coatings for use in window frames and architectural materials are obtained by anodising Al alloy containing 0.3-0.6% Si, 0.1-0.4 % Fe, 0.2-0.6% Mn, 0.4-0.7% Mg, 0.1% Cr, 0.1% Zn, 0.05% Cu, 0.05% ti, 0.05% individual contaminant amounting to 0.15% max., bal. Al. The alloy is treated as anode in an anodising bath consisting of an aqs. electrolyte containing 0.1-2% H2SO4 and 0.09-0.6 g. mol/l of a sulphonic acid such as sulphosalicylic or sulphophthalic acid or sulphoresorcinol or lignosulphonic acid until total current consumption is 86-162 Ah/sq. cm. of surface of article to be treated. pref. present in sheet form. Pref. anodic oxide layer is 0.6-1.2 mils. thick.
