Zusammenfassung:1,244,559. Rotary engines and pumps. UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION. May 16, 1969 [June 10, 1968], No.25077/69. Heading F1F. [Also in Division A5] An implantable heart circulatory support apparatus (see Division A5) includes a rotary steam engine 18 which drives by a belt or gear and chain a rotary pump 28. A typical cylinder 134 in engine 18 has a power output shaft 136 at its centre on which is mounted for rotation therewith an eccentric rotor 138 which sweeps the inside surface of the cylinder closely with its point of greatest eccentricity. Slide valve 142 includes wheel 146 biased by spring 144 to provide a seal against the outer surface of rotor 138. Steam from a flash boiler 12 (see Division G6) enters the cylinder to the right of slide valve 142 as shown through rotary valve 148 driven from the shaft 136 and after expansion exhausts through manifold 152. Pump 28 is similar in construction. Shaft 156 rotates eccentric rotor 158 within cylinder 154. Water enters through ball-valve 164 and leaves under pressure through outlet manifold 166. Slide valve 168 functions similarly to slide valve 142 in engine 18. Both pump and engine are multicylinder to provide a uniform output.
