Zusammenfassung: | 1,249,031. Anaerobically polymerizable adhesives. LOCTITE CORP. 1 Jan., 1969 [2 Jan., 1968], No. 20/69. Heading C3P. Anaerobic adhesive compositions comprising a polymerizable ester of acrylic or α-substituted acrylic acid, flowable at 70 F., and a peroxy polymerization initiator have uniformly distributed therein (preferably in an amount of 5-80% of the total weight of the composition) an organic material which is solid at 70 F. and insoluble 'in the ester/initiator mixture at 70 F., so that the composition is non-flowable at 70 F. The polymerizable ester may be derived from acrylic, methacrylic, ethacrylic or α- chloroacrylic acid and may be a mono- or polyester. Esters specified are di-(meth)-acrylates of mono- or poly-glycols or di-glycerol, tetraethylene glycol di-(chloroacrylate), trimethylolpropane triacrylate, diglycerol tetramethacrylate, hydroxyethyl methacrylate, cyanoethyl acrylate, t-butylaminoethyl methacrylate and glycidyl methacrylate. The esters may include inhibitors or stabilizers such as polyhydric phenols or quinones. Initiators specified are organic hydroperoxides (preferably having up to 18 carbon atoms), hydrogen peroxide, and organic peroxides or per-esters which are decomposable to form hydroperoxides. The initiator can be formed in situ by oxygenating the polymerizable ester whereby molecules of the ester are converted to a peroxy form. 'The compositions may also include amine or imide accelerators, thickeners and colouring agents. Substances suitable as the insoluble organic material solid at 70 F. include thermoplastic polymers such as polyalkylene glycols, polyalkyleneimines, polyesters, phenolics and chlorinated polyphenols; substantially saturated hydrocarbons of molecular weight above 250; fatty acid (C 8 -C 24 ) esters of polyols; and compounds of the formula R-X where R is a monovalent hydrocarbon group containing at least 10 carbon atoms and X is OH, CO 2 H, CO 2 R, OM, CO 2 M, CHO, CN, SO 3 H, HSO 4 , Cl, Br or CONH 2 (M being an ion of an alkali or alkaline earth metal). The compositions are particularly suitable for application to the threaded portions of threaded fasteners (e.g. nuts and bolts). |
