Zusammenfassung:	1279719 Polymeric membrane KALLE AG 23 Dec 1969 [31 Dec 1968] 62612/69 Heading B1X [Also in Division B5] Semipermeable films which may be used to separate SO 4 = and Clfrom brackish water or to concentrate and desalt a saline carboxymethylcellulose solution, using a pressure differential of 40At across the membrane are made by coating a solution of a poly(#-lactam) which is unsubstituted on the N-atom on a support and, after partial evaporation of the solvent the resulting film being immersed in a liquid miscible with the solvent but not the polymer, when a semipermeable film results. In Examples, poly(4-methylazetidin-2-one) or a copolymer thereof with 3,4-dimethylazetidin- 2-one is dissolved in conc. formic acid, cast and then immersed in water.
