[Also in Division C1] A laser is of glass with composition consisting essentially in wt. per cent of: SiO 2 , 40-65; Nd 2 O 3 , 1-8; ZrO 2 , 7-10; BaO, 10À5-40; MgO, 0-2; CaO, 0-2; SrO, 0-7À5; Li 2 O, 0-5À5; Na 2 O, 0-2À3; K 2 O, 0-7; Ce 2 O 3 , 0-1; Sb 2 O 5 , 0-1; in which (3Li 2 O + 2Na 2 O + K 2 O)#5À5%, and (CaO+MgO+SrO+BaO)# 15%. Not more than 0.01% Fe 2 O, should be present. The ingredients may be added as oxides or carbonates. The glass has relatively low coefficient of linear thermal expansion, e.g. (50-65) Î 10-7/‹ C. The glass may be transparent.
