Ice from a refrigerator falls into receptacle 4 and is discharged therefrom through opening 60 by means of conveyer 50, which comprises conveyer part 18 and conveyer part 61 which is mounted rigidly on the conveyer shaft and includes two passages 63, and scoop 70. The ice blocks are moved leftwards by conveyer part 18 so as to provide a surplus of blocks at the entry to conveyer part 61. Conveyer part 61 rotates as part of the conveyer so that scoop 70 entrains a block 72 which as the conveyer rotates moves up to position 721 and then slides forward into position 751 to be subsequently discharged at 60. A surplus of blocks thus passes through the conveyer portion 61 and is held up by wall 74 forming part of the conveyer. In this way the conveyer discharges a constant number of blocks per rotation from the blocks waiting at 74.
