A dye developer diffusion transfer process comprising imagewise exposing a material comprising a support and at least two silver halide layers sensitized to different spectral regions and each layer containing a dye developer or being directly above a layer containing a dye developer and processing with an alkaline liquid so that the unoxidized areas of the dye developers transfer by diffusion to a receptor layer; dimethyl sulphoxide or 2, 21-thiodiethanol or a mixture thereof either being present in or introduced into the alkaline liquid during processing. The sulphurcontaining compound may be in the light-sensitive material or the receiving material if not present in the alkaline liquid. The alkaline liquid may contain a viscous, film forming material and an onium compound as disclosed in Specification 1, 003, 672. The process is preferably carried out in the presence of a water-insoluble hydroquinone e.g. 41-methyl phenyl hydroquinone. The invention also relates to an aqueous alkaline processing liquid containing dimethyl sulphoxide or 2, 21 -thiodiethanol or a mixture thereof for effecting the above process, and to a photographic assemblage comprising a photographic material as above, a rupturable container holding an aqueous alkaline liquid and a receiving material, dimethyl sulphoxide or 2, 21 thiodiethanol or a mixture thereof being present in the container or the photographic material or receiving material.
