A process for bonding non-porous materials which comprises applying a polyfunctional aromatic cyanic acid ester, or a prepolymer obtained therefrom by heat-treatment, to one or more surfaces to be bonded, placing the surfaces in contact and supplying heat to harden the cyanic acid ester. Polyfunctional cyanic acid esters of phenol-formaldehyde condensates of the novolak type may be used and also 4,41- dicyanato-diphenyl alkanes, especially the methane analogue. Specified non-porous materials are metals, glass, porcelain, ceramics, mica and high-temperature-resistant plastics, e.g. glass fibre reinforced plastics obtained from 4,41- dicyanato-diphenyl-dimethyl-methane.
