Novel compounds of Formula (I) in which R is alkyl or aralkyl and R1 is alkyl and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts are prepared by reducing a ketone of Formula (II) in which X is a radical replaceable by hydrogen and simultaneously replacing the radical X by H, by catalytic hydrogenation, followed by formation of an acid addition salt where required. An intermediate isolated is 1-(p-benzyloxyphenyl) - 2 - (4 - methyl - piperidino) - propan- 1-one from #-pipecoline and p-benzyloxy-α- bromo -propiophenone. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a compound I or its acid addition salts in association with a carrier. They can be administered orally and parenterally and are useful as vasodilators, cardiotonics and hypotensors.
