Zusammenfassung: | 1,220,552. Chromatography columns. I. HALASZ. 14 Feb., 1969 [15 Feb., 1968], No. 8101/69. Headings B1L and B1X. [Also in Division F2] An instrument adapted to analyse or separate a fluid comprises a tube having an internal cross-section other than circular, coiled at a coiling diameter not exceeding ten times the length of its longest transverse axis and/or the orientation of the transverse axes thereof varying along its length such that the tube imparts to the fluid a direction of flow other than axial. The bore may be elliptical with the ratio of axes being 3:1. The orientation of the axes may be effected by twisting the tube about its axis (Fig. 3, not shown) through one complete revolution every 25 m.m. for a tube of which the bore of member would be 1 m.m. Alternatively portions of the tube may be offset from adjacent portions by 90 (Fig. 4, not shown) the length of each portion being not greater than fifty times the length of the longest transverse axes. The coiled tube may itself be coiled. The tube may be of metal, plastics material or glass. |
