Heading C2C. 1,2,5,6 - Tetrahydropyridines are produced by heating a compound of the formula wherein R1 is a lower alkyl C 1-3 radical, R2 and R3 each represent a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl C 1-3 radical but do not simultaneously represent hydrogen atoms, with at least the stoichiometric quantity of solid anhydrous alkali metal hydroxide or alkaline earth metal oxide in a pressure-tight vessel at a temperature of from 200‹ to 300‹ C. in the absence of water and organic solvents.
