A wet gas or a gas sprayed with liquid is filtered by passage through a rapidly rotating filter-element comprising a central disc 4 and rigidly-held filaments 5, the filaments extruding radially from the .disc in a common plane. Preferably the tips of the filaments are secured to a rim and the wall 6 of the section of the conduit in which the filter element rotates is made of foamed polystyrene. Liquid may be fed onto the disc 4 as shown. The filaments may be of stainless steel. In an example the filter element had 66 filaments and a rotation speed of 1700 rpm was employed.
