Zusammenfassung:A polish, coating wax or carbon paper wax contains as hard wax (i) the residue from an Alfol-alcohol synthesis having an m-value exceeding 25; or (ii) the residue from such a synthesis having an m-value 20-25 in admixture with a polyolefin; or (iii) an ether containing at least 30 C, or an ester containing a C4-C10 dicarboxylic acid or a mono carboxylic acid of at least C14, derived from a normal alcohol separated from the residue of such a synthesis having an m-value less than 10, in admixture with a polyolefin; or (iv) an ester of an acid obtained by oxidation of such a normal alcohol with another alcohol, in admixture with a polyolefine. The polyolefine may be polyethylene, -propylene, or -butylene, of M.W. 2000-10,000. The "m-value" is the number of mols. of ethylene bound per g. equivalent Al-C in the Alfol-alcohol synthesis ("Alfol" is a Registered Trade Mark). Other constituents of a polish are a volatile solvent such as white spirit, a microwax, and a hard paraffin. In examples polyethylene constitutes 20% or 33.3% by weight of the hard wax component.
