Zusammenfassung:Synthetic lubricating oils comprise a blend of di-secondary alkyl esters of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and an isomeric mixture of secondary straight-chain alcohols having at least 5 carbon atoms per molecule. Isomeric mixtures of secondary straight chain octyl, nonyl, decyl, undecyl, dodecyl, tridecyl, tetradecyl and pentadecyl alcohols are mentioned and they may be prepared by direct oxidation of straight-chain paraffinic hydrocarbons. Dicarboxylic acids are listed and examples describe the reaction of sebacic acid with an isomeric mixture of secondary n-octyl and n-dodecyl alcohols. Conventional additives may be included in the ester lubricants.ALSO:Dibasic esters are prepared by reacting an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid with an isomeric mixture of secondary straight-chain alcohols with at least 5 carbon atoms per molecule. The resulting blend of esters is used as a synthetic lubricating oil. Isomeric mixtures of secondary straight chain octyl, nonyl, decyl, undecyl, dodecyl, tridecyl, tetradecyl and pentadecyl alcohols are mentioned and may be prepared by direct oxidation of straight chain paraffinic hydrocarbons. Dicarboxylic acids are listed and examples describe the reaction of sebacic acid with an isomeric mixture of secondary n-octyl and n-dodecyl alcohols.
