Zusammenfassung: | Lubricating compositions comprise at least one polyphenyl polyether having 4-7 benzene rings as the base oil, and as an additive an organo-tin compound which is one of several specified types.ALSO:Various organo-tin compounds useful as lubricant additives are prepared as follows: Diaryltin bis-(haloalkanoates) by reacting a diaryltin dihalide with a haloalkanoic acid. Examples are diphenyltin bis-(chloroacetate) in Example 3, and diphenyltin bis-(trichloroacetate) in Example 5. Bis-[(halophenoxy)tin] oxides by reacting an organo-tin oxide with a halophenol. In Example 10, bis - [(pentachlorophenoxy) diphenyltin] oxide is prepared, other preparations being indicated in the general description. Bis - (triaryl-, triaralkyl- and trialkarylstannoxy) benzenes by reacting an appropriate tin halide with a dihydric phenol. In Example 1, para-bis-(triphenyl-stannoxy) benzene is prepared, other preparation being indicated in the general description. Bis-(triphenyltin) oxide is prepared in Example 2 by reacting triphenyltin chloride with aqueous sodium hydroxide. Dibutyltin bis-(2-ethylhexoate) is stated in Example 4 to be obtained from dibutyltin chloride and 2-ethylhexanoic acid.ALSO:Polymeric tin oxides and/or sulphides containing 10-1000 repeating units of formula in which R is a C1- 12 alkyl or cycloalkyl group a C6- 12 aryl, alkaryl, or aralkyl group which may carry halogen substituents in the aryl nucleus, or a C12- 24 aryloxyaryl group, X is O or S, and Y is a C6- 12 arylene group, or an arylenealkylenearylene or alkylenearylenealkylene group having 6-12 carbon atoms in the arylene portion(s) and 1-4 carbon atoms in the alkylene portion(s) of the group, are described. They are prepared by reacting diorganotin halides with a compound containing either two hydroxy groups, two thiol groups, or one of each. In Example 7, diphenyltin chloride and para-xylene-a ,a 1-dithiol are reacted to give a polymer containing the repeating unit |
