Zusammenfassung: | Olefins are polymerized in the absence of a halide of a Group III element, and in the presence of an inert hydrocarbon medium, a halide of a Group IVa, Va or VIa metal, and a metal which is more electropositive than hydrogen and which is in the form of particles of less than 10 microns. Catalyst components preferred are the halides of Ti, V, Zr, Mo and Cr, and the alkali or alkaline earth metals, Re, Al, Be Ti, Mn or Mg. Ethylene and/or propylene are the specified monomers, although hexene and unspecified alkadienes and alkatrienes may also be present. Films, fibres, coatings and moulded articles may be obtained. German Specification 874,215 and U.S.A. Specification 2,355,925 are referred to.ALSO:A catalyst used in the polymerization of olefines comprises a Group IVALPHA, VALPHA or VIALPHA metal halide and a metal which is more electropositive than hydrogen and which is in the form of particles of less than 10 microns.
