Zusammenfassung: | 1,011,591. Gettering discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 18, 1962 [May 25, 1961], No. 19291/62. Heading H1D. A fused silica body, such as the envelope of a high-temperature discharge lamp, having at least one surface isolated from the atmosphere, is provided with a getter consisting of chromium or silicon, which form oxides having a dissociation pressure no greater than 10-18 torr. at temperatures not less than 1000 C., to prevent devitrification of the silica by reacting with any oxygen which may infuse into or be present in the silica. Preferably a thin coating of silicon is deposited on the isolated surface of the silica. In the double-walled lamp shown, the getter 26 is placed in the space between the silica inner envelope 20 and the outer jacket 25. |
