The invention relates to a device (100) and a method for separating a cartridge (202) belted in an ammunition belt (200), said device comprising: a housing (102) which has a feed opening (104) which is designed to receive the ammunition belt (200) with the belted cartridges (202); a drive device (106) which is designed to convey the ammunition belt (200) fed via the feed opening (104) in the housing (102); a release device (108) which is designed to release and/or actuate at least one securing part (204) of the ammunition belt (200), which securing part secures the cartridge (202) in the ammunition belt (200), and thereby to release the belted cartridge (202) from the composite of the ammunition belt (200); and a connecting piece (110) formed on or detachably fastened to the housing (102), which connecting piece comprises a dispensing opening (112) and is designed to be connected to a magazine well of a weapon in order to provide the cartridge (202) released by the release device (108) at the dispensing opening (112) and/or to dispense said cartridge via the dispensing opening (112).
