The measurement gas (3) is photoacoustically excited in a measurement chamber (4), the sound thus produced is captured by means of a sound sensor (5), and the captured signal is evaluated in an evaluation unit (6) in order to determine the measurement property (C). The evaluation unit (6) corrects the determined measurement property (C) by means of a correction function. In order to determine at least one parameter of the correction function, a determination pressure (PE) is set in the measurement chamber (4) at least once and the absolute pressure (P) in the measurement chamber (4) is determined. At said absolute pressure (P), at least one determination measurement is performed with determination excitation, and the at least one parameter is determined on the basis of the absolute pressure (P) and the determination measurement result (CE) of the determination measurement.
