The invention relates to a hair-styling appliance having a heatble cylindrical operating surface, a handle part and a hair-securing device, which can be rotated through 360° between the operating surface and the handle part, with the special feature that the hair-securing device has a hair-securing gap running radially in relation to the operating surface. To distinguish it from a large number of hair-curling appliances which are known from the prior art, the invention dispenses with a spring-loaded hair-fixing element, the hair being wound around the operating surface of the hair-curling appliance by means of a hair-driving carrier and an associated hair-securing device. The appliance according to the subject matter of the invention can be operated by motor and by hand.
