Zusammenfassung:	The invention relates to a method and a device for the thermal treatment of a multiplicity of fiber strands of a fiber cable. Here, the fiber strands are heated or cooled jointly by a temperature-control device. To permit energy-efficient temperature control, it is provided according to the invention that infrared radiation of the fiber cable is detected and converted into a surface temperature of the fiber strands, such that the temperature-control device can be controlled as a function of an actual value of the surface temperature. For the detection of the infrared radiation of the fiber cable, the temperature-control device is assigned an infrared detector device, which is coupled to a control device.
