[Also in Groups XIX and XL (c)] A gas-discharge tube, used as a gate in a digital-data-storage device (see Group XIX), comprises electrodes 15 across which a voltage, less than the normal discharge-maintaining potential of the tube, is applied. When a highfrequency oscillator 11, capacitatively coupled to a conductive coating 14 on the tube, is brought into operation, the H.F. signal, flowing to earth via condensers 16, ionizes the gas in the tube and D.C. current flows between terminals 18 and 19.
