A fire retardant-stabilizer combination for thermoplastic polymers comprises (A) a phosphinate and/or diphosphinate salt and/or a polymer thereof, and (B) a chain extender selected from bis-lactams, bis-oxazolines, bis-oxazines, epoxides, and anhydrides of polybasic acids. A fire retardant-stabilizer combination for thermoplastic polymers, comprising: (A) a phosphinate and/or diphosphinate salt of formula (I) and/or (II) and/or their polymers; and (B) a chain extender selected from (b1) bis- lactams, (b2) bis-oxazolines or bis-oxazines, (b3) epoxides and (b4) anhydrides of polybasic acids. An independent claim is included for plastic molding materials containing 1-50 wt.% (A), 0.01-10 wt.% (B), 5-98 wt.% polyester or polyamide and optionally other components.
