Zusammenfassung: | Titanium (IV) chloride and its hydrolyzed reaction products are separated by treating exhaust gases with an aqueous hydrochloric acid solution of titanium oxychloride. Separation of titanium (IV) chloride (TiCl4) and its hydrolyzed reaction products comprises treating exhaust gases (1) generated during the chlorination of raw materials containing Ti in a first separation stage with a first aqueous hydrochloric-acid solution of Ti oxychloride. The exhaust gases are introduced into the bottom of a first separation stage spray column (2). A first large droplets of the first aqueous hydrochloric-acid solution is injected at the top of the spray column. It has a large diameter that it falls through the upward flowing exhaust gas to the bottom of the spray column. A second large droplets of the first aqueous hydrochloric-acid solution is injected into the spray column. It has a small diameter that it is entrained in the upward flowing exhaust flow and a large diameter that an upwardly moving droplet of the second will collide with a falling droplet of the first so that the two droplets coalesce and fall to the bottom of the spray column. |
