Zusammenfassung:	Production of fiber-reinforced semi-finished product (10) in the form of metal strips, metal sheets or the like comprises welding a metal with reinforcing fibers (14) so that the metal fuses with the matrix (12) surrounding the reinforcing fibers. An Independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the process. Preferably the metal of a reinforcing fiber is welded to the metal of a further reinforcing fiber or with the matrix of already joined reinforcing fibers. The welding process is a laser welding or electron beam welding. The reinforcing fibers are made from silicon, carbon, boron, oxygen, aluminum and/or nitrogen. The metal forming the matrix is titanium (TI64).
