In particular, such hybrid bipolar plate assemblies allow for the combination of preferred oxidant channel structures, which can be formed in carbonaceous oxidant flow field inserts, with preferred smaller bipolar plate assembly thicknesses, which are possible with the use of metal plate subassemblies.
