Die Erfindung betrifft ein optisch variables Sicherheitselement (40) zur Absicherung von Wertgegenständen mit einem Substrat (20), einer auf dem Substrat angeordneten dunklen Untergrundschicht (42) und einem über der Untergrundschicht (42) angeordneten optisch variablen Farbschichtaufbau, der eine erste Effektschicht (44) und eine zweite Effektschicht (48) umfasst. Erfindungsgemäß ist dabei vorgesehen, dass die erste Effektschicht (44) auf der Untergrundschicht (42) angeordnet ist und durch ein äußeres Magnetfeld reversibel ausrichtbare Effektpigmente enthält, und dass die zweite Effektschicht (48) eine optisch variable Schicht darstellt, die auf und/oder neben der ersten Effektschicht (44) angeordnet ist.
