The device has a driven shaft (4) connected with a propeller shaft, which is upstream of a pinion shaft (8). The pinion shaft is stopped by a brake device (15) i.e. multi-plate brake. The pinion shaft comprises a free shaft terminal (18), which is accessible from outer side. The brake device comprises an inner disk carrier (16). One end of the disk carrier is connected with the pinion shaft and another end is connected with the shaft terminal. The shaft terminal is connectable with a drive device i.e. electromotor, which is flanged on the brake device. Die Erfindung betrifft eine Vorrichtung zum Abbremsen einer Propellerwelle eines Schiffsgetriebes, umfassend eine mit der Propellerwelle verbundene Abtriebswelle (4), welcher mindestens eine Ritzelwelle (8) vorgeschaltet ist, wobei die Ritzelwelle (8) durch eine Bremseinrichtung (15) abbremsbar ist. Es wird vorgeschlagen, dass die Ritzelwelle (8) einen freien Wellenanschluss (18) aufweist, welcher von außen zugänglich ist.
