The apparatus (1) for supplying a solder wire to a hand soldering iron, comprises a solder wire (7), a solder wire holder, to which the solder wire is winded, a feeding device (13) with an engine for automatically feeding the solder wire to the hand soldering iron, a control unit (11), and an unit for detecting a contact between the solder wire and a solder tip (4) of the hand soldering iron, where the control unit is actively connected with the detecting unit and the feeding device is controlled by the control unit. The apparatus (1) for supplying a solder wire to a hand soldering iron, comprises a solder wire (7), a solder wire holder, to which the solder wire is winded, a feeding device (13) with an engine for automatically feeding the solder wire to the hand soldering iron, a control unit (11), and an unit for detecting a contact between the solder wire and a solder tip (4) of the hand soldering iron, where the control unit is actively connected with the detecting unit and the feeding device is controlled by the control unit. The feeding device is switched-off during a contact between the solder wire and the solder tip of the hand soldering iron. The control unit is controlled, so that the feeding device is automatically switched-on for a switch-on time after an interruption of the contact between the solder wire and the solder tip and/or the detecting unit is an electrical or an electronic switch for detecting the electrical contact between the solder wire and the solder tip in which an electric current is conductable through the solder wire and the solder tip. The contact time between the solder wire and the solder tip is detectable by the control unit and the control unit is controlled, so that the switching-on time if the feeding device is controlled in dependent of the contact time between the solder wire and the solder tip after the interruption of the contacts between the solder wire and the solder tip and so that the feeding device is automatically switched-on if a foot switch is switched-on after the interruption of the contacts between the solder wire and the solder tip.
