Zusammenfassung:	The device has an electrical supply unit e.g. main battery (14), operating an electric motor (10) within a base load range. An electrical peak load energy storage e.g. peak load battery (16), operates the motor within a peak load range. The main and peak load batteries are electrically coupled with the motor independent of each other by power electronics circuit (12). The main battery is formed as a fuel cell or lithium ion battery. A recuperation device recuperates brake energy and loads the peak load battery. Cooling devices (18, 20) comprise a coolant circuit for cooling the load battery. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a motor vehicle.
