The unit (1) has a retaining element (1.1) for attachment of a sensor unit (2) in an operating position. The retaining element is formed such that the sensor unit is detachably fixed into the operating position and a transportation position (T) that is different from the operating position. The retaining element includes a latching connection by which the sensor unit is detachably fixed in the transportation position and/or in the operating position. The sensor unit is connected with a trunk circuit (3). An independent claim is also included for a method for an assembly of a bumper unit.
