The method involves receiving position data from a satellite system e.g. satellite navigation system (10), and storing information e.g. product manufacturer information, in a memory of a product identification (12) based on the received position data. A part of the information is transmitted to a central area. An allocation of the product identification is requested from the central area. The information is written into the memory in an encoded manner, where the information is encoded with a fixed assigned code received from the central area.
