The device (11) has a profile retainer (12) guiding and retaining a hollow profile (6) and comprising two wall units (13, 15), and a clamping device fixing the profile in the retainer and arranged at the section (15). A rear gripping part (22) inserted into a mounting opening of the profile is arranged at a side of the section (15). The part is displaceable by an operating part (24) for fixing the profile to a side of the section (15). A measuring device (41) is displaceable in direction of a longitudinal extension of the profile, and a stop is provided at a free end of the device (41). Eine Haltevorrichtung zum Ablängen eines Hohlprofils (6), das eine entlang seiner Längserstreckung verlaufende Montageöffnung (7) aufweist, weist eine U-förmige Profilaufnahme (12) zur Führung und Aufnahme des Hohlprofils (6) und eine Spanneinrichtung (21) zur Festlegung des Hohlprofils (6) in der Profilaufnahme (12) auf. Die Profilaufnahme (12) ist von einem ersten Wandabschnitt (13), einem parallel zu diesem verlaufenden dritten Wandabschnitt (14) sowie von einem zweiten, den ersten Wandabschnitt (13) und den dritten Wandabschnitt (14) verbindenden Wandabschnitt (15) gebildet. Die Spanneinrichtung (21) ist an dem zweiten Wandabschnitt (15) vorgesehen und weist an der der Profilaufnahme (12) zugewandten Seite (16) des zweiten Wandabschnitts (15) ein in die Montageöffnung (7) des Hohlprofils (6) einführbares Hintergreifteil (22) sowie an der der Profilaufnahme (12) abgewandten Seite (17) des zweiten Wandabschnitts (15), ein mit dem Hintergreifteil (22) über ein den zweiten Wandabschnitt (15) durchdringendes Verbindungsteil (23) drehfest verbundenes Betätigungsteil (24) auf, wobei das Hintergreifteil (22) zur Festlegung des Hohlprofils (6) zu der der Profilaufnahme (12) zugewandten Seite (16) des Wandabschnitts (15) hin mittels des Betätigungsteils (24) versetzbar ist.
