The unit (10) has a passage opening (14a) arranged in a flat electrically conducting base unit (12), and including a diameter that is smaller than diameter of an electrical conductor. A contact guide (16a) with its free end (18a) is joined to the opening, where the unit is designed as a stamping part. The guide is designed in such a manner that the guide with its free end is connected to the conductor during insertion of the conductor. The unit is manufactured from a flat, rectangular electrically conducting material piece, and the conductor is shifted into the passage opening. An independent claim is also included for a method of plugging an electrical conductor.
