Using the method, a cleaning cloth (3) is first dampened with water (4) and then with a cleaning agent (5). Lastly, it is applied to the cylinder (1) of the press machine (2) to be washed. The washing installation comprises a washing device (16) and a control device (6) which allows the cloth to be dampened before being put on the cylinder. The control device enables the washing device to dampen the cloth with water and then with cleaning agent and than to put it on the cylinder.
