Zusammenfassung:Engine with variable compression ratio comprises a connecting rod via which a crankshaft rotating about a crank axis moves a piston backward and forward in a cylinder. The connecting rod consists of a first part and a second part positioned relative to each other to adjust the effective length of the connecting rod and thus the compression ratio for the cylinder, and a locking mechanism (38) which can be selectively brought into a locking state to lock the first part with the second part in a position corresponding to a specified effective length of the connecting rod and into an unlocking state in which the first part and the second part are positioned relative to each other at an effective length differing from the specified effective length. The locking mechanism has a first element (38C1) and a second element (38C2) which move away from one another and move toward each other to transfer the locking mechanism from one state into the other state. An Independent claim is also included for the variable-length connecting rod. Preferred Features: The first part of the connecting rod has a through hole (50B) having a longitudinal axis parallel to the crankshaft axis. The second part of the connecting rod has a bore also having a longitudinal axis parallel to the crankshaft axis.
