Independent claims are also included for a refuse tip, debris heap, etc. having the above device, and for a subterraneous curtain. Preferred Features: The water-permeable layer consists of water-permeable sealing elements separated by joints (3) and/or holes (4). The water-permeable sealing elements are tiles (2), especially fired tiles. Only parts of the sealing layer are provided with sealing elements. The sealing elements are combined with other sealing elements. - Device for sealing surfaces, especially refuse tips, debris heaps, etc., comprises a mineral sealing layer (1) provided with a water-permeable layer. The sealing elements are combined with other sealing elements. Eine Vorrichtung dient zur Abdichtung von Flächen, insbesondere von Deponien, Halden, Haufwerken oder dergleichen. Um das Eindringen von Niederschlagswasser zu verhindern, eine großflächige Methanoxidation zu ermöglichen und Sickerwasseraustritte in den Untergrund zu vermeiden, weist die Vorrichtung eine mineralische Dichtungsschicht (1) auf, die mit einer wasserdurchlässigen Schicht (2, 3, 4) versehen ist (Abb. 1d).
